November 2017 | New Website Changes

Q. How do I update my bookmarks?

A. The www and beta addresses will both continue to function synonymously after the cutover, so no updating of saved links or bookmarks will be required.

Q. How do I update my browser as I like The Globe and Mail as my homepage?

A. The www and beta addresses will both continue to function synonymously after the cutover, so no updating of saved links or bookmarks will be required.

Q. How can I add this new site to my mobile phone?

A. The www and beta addresses will both continue to function synonymously after the cutover, so no updating of saved links or bookmarks will be required.

Q. Does this affect my ad blocking or chrome plug-in?

A. Generally, since this is a switch on our content only, these should not be affected.  . If you have a wildcard for the entire domain (e.g. *.theglobeandmail.com) nothing will change as well.  However, if you had previously set your extensions to target beta.theglobeandmail.com specifically, you would have to redo your settings.

Q. Does this change affect my personal settings for cookies or tracking?

A. It might, as there are some beta-specific cookies. However you should already have relevant www cookies that will continue to function after the cutover.

Q. I save my passwords; will this change affect how this is stored?

A.  These should not be affected

Q. I prefer the desktop version, how do I get this back?

A. Readers cannot opt out of the new version. The old website is now only available for features that have no equivalent on the new website (such as Watchlist). We will continue to roll out new site features in the coming months until the old site is completely removed.
